Professor, oil painter and digital illustrator who likes to bring a smile. Casey specializes in concept art, character design, children ’s books, and editorial illustration.

Casey Nelson grew up the oldest of eight children in a military family so she learned quickly how to entertain a crowd and made friends by drawing TIE Fighters, Garfield, and unicorns on the first day of school.  She attended Ricks College in Idaho and after two years serving among the Spanish speaking people in Toronto Canada, graduated from Brigham Young University with a BFA in illustration.

Casey was hired right out of college as a concept artist for a video game studio.  In time, she became a cinematic artist for Walt Disney’s video games. While working for Disney, Casey taught figure drawing courses at BYU and performed improv comedy at ComedySportz, an internationally known comedy club.  Casey recently left the video game industry to pursue a career in teaching and freelance. She is now a professor of Illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design, focusing primarily on character designing and visual story development.
